R. Brian Stone, citizen of the world, works in the area of motion design, interaction design, information visualization, and user experience, and is an Associate Professor of Design at The Ohio State University. His work has garnered numerous awards for design excellence and he is the author of several articles on the subjects of interactive experiences, usability, information design, and kinetic messages.
He has held visiting appointments at the National University of Singapore (NUS), Escola Superior de Desenho Industrial (ESDI) in Brasil, and Universidad Americana Managua, Nicaragua (UAM). Apple Computer recognized Professor Stone’s teaching with the Apple Distinguished Educator award. He is also a recipient of the Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching from The Ohio State University and the Order of Omega Faculty Recognition Award.
Professor Stone was co-organizer of the past two MoDe Summit conferences and is currently editing a collection of essays on Motion Design in the soon to be published book, Kinetic Emergence: The Theory and Practice of Motion Design.

As a form of applied research, Andre Murnieks’ project and scholarly work explores the implementation of human-centered approaches to interaction design with particular emphasis on the narrative of digitally mediated user experiences, often through the use of motion as a methodology for discovery, presentation and visual communication. Much Andre’s work is educational and/or heath care related and seeks to more clearly inform underserved groups, whether they are employees, novices, volunteers, consumers, learners or children. At the core of all Andre’s project work, teaching and research is a pursuit of a better understanding of human behavior as it relates to a digital interactive experience. In instances where the project is defined as speculative, the outcomes consistently lead to recommendations that are implemented, as well as a realization on the client’s part that design research and creative discovery from the end user’s perspective is an important and worthy endeavor. Looking forward, Andre’s more recent area of interest concerns human-computer interactions controlled by natural voice. As a form of developmental research, he explores conceptual and theoretical approaches through which an interactive system provides feedback to the user. These explorations promote the supposition that the computer system relies heavily upon dynamic graphic visualization and motion in response to a user’s query. Andre has presented papers conferences like AIGA and EVA on the topics of motion, sound and interaction design, and now is looking forward to experimenting with a convergence of these topics.

Gretchen Caldwell Rinnert is an Associate Professor at Kent State University’s School of Visual Communication Design. She has presented at various international conferences, exhibiting her research at both AIGA Educators Conferences and for the Design Research Society (DRS). She teaches interaction, motion, and design theory.
Currently she is working on iPad apps for preliterate children, helping them to learn to read and write through interaction and motion graphic reinforcements. Her work focuses on expanding the tools for small children that help engage and stimulate their developing minds through design strategies. She is inspired by her own young children that have speech delays.
Gretchen is one of the founding members of the MoDe Summit in 2013. She has been running the website, making to-do lists and sending emails to keep this vibrant and groundbreaking group connected.
Rebecca Tegtmeyer is a graphic design educator and practitioner. Through her active research, writing, making, and teaching agenda she investigates the role of a designer and the design process through a variety of forms—from static to dynamic, time-based to print. Working both individually and collaboratively she approaches design as a catalyst in facilitating systems that preserve, protect, and provide—further extending the capabilities and responsibilities of a designer in today’s complex world.
Currently, Rebecca is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Art, Art History, and Design at Michigan State University. She has presented her work nationally and internationally as well as contributed to the organization and planning of MoDe 2015 in Dublin. Rebecca holds a BFA in Visual Communication from the University of Kansas and a Master of Graphic Design (MGD) from NC State University College of Design.

Aaron Ganci is an Assistant Professor of Visual Communication Design at Herron School of Art and Design, part of Indiana University, in Indianapolis, IN. His expertise is the area of in the visual design of online environments (user interface design). Coming from an educational background (MFA 2011, Ohio State University; BA 2006, Eastern Illinois University) encompassing print, interaction, and user experience design, he is well-positioned to document design’s transition to new on-screen and interactive environments.
In addition to teaching, Professor Ganci also consults on a variety of digital design projects. Most recently, he has been consulting on the development of a visual design system for a worldwide suite of digital library tools (including WorldCat and FirstSearch) produced by the Online Computer Library Center, Inc. in Dublin, OH.
